Have a blast at Halloween in the Miocene, Saturday, October 27th from 10:00 to 5:00! Come in costume and trick or treat throughout the museum. We will have activities for the whole family including games, puzzles and fun with skulls! Enjoy ghost stories from 11:00 to 3:00. What' could possibly be spookier than a 5 million year old bone yard? General admission for adults is $6. Kids get in free!

National Fossil Day

Please join us on Saturday, October 13th as we celebrate one of our favorite holidays, National Fossil Day! A full day of festivities is planned from 9 am to 5 pm including behind-the-scenes tours at 11:00 and 3:00. Make your own fossil in our Plaster Casting activity which will be held in the Annex for any and all ages. Visitors can also participate in fossil picking; you never know what you’ll find! General admission for adults is $6. Kids get in free!

The opening event for “Vadim Bora: A Visual Legacy of Expressive Freedom” will be September 28th from 6 to 9 p.m. at Warren Wilson College’s Elizabeth Holden Gallery, just outside Asheville, N.C. The retrospective continues through November 30th and features the late artist’s drawings, paintings, sculpture, jewelry designs, architectural ornamentation project renderings and maquettes. Home-School Program For Students in Grades 1 – 4 SEPTEMBER 11, OCTOBER 9 + NOVEMBER 13 Tuesdays, 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Cost: $4 per session Pre-registration is required. Home-School students in grades 1 – 4 are invited to join us for a monthly home-school program on the second Tuesday of each month. Each 90-minute program includes a guided tour of the Museum’s Permanent Collection or special exhibition and a hands-on activity.
