Learn to Crochet This class designed for absolute beginners will teach the chain, slip stitch, single crochet and reading of simple patterns. The class project is a set of edged "mug rug" style coasters, ideal for use at home, or as gifts. No previous experience needed. You will need a size H or I crochet hook, 1 or 2 colors (1 3oz. ball total) of worsted (#4) cotton yarn, such as "Sugar and Cream" , "Lion Kitchen Cotton", or "Dishie", a small pair of scissors, ruler, and a large-eyed yarn (darning) needle. Free pattern will be provided. Class fee is $30 for the 3-session class, Saturdays-- Nov. 9, 16, & 23, 1-2:30 p.m. Knitting: Mini-Mitten Ornament Workshop The mini-mittens we’ll be making in this workshop are perfect as ornaments, gift toppers, or with a gift card stuffed inside; they become a charming gift in their own right! You'll need to already be comfortable with both knit and purl stitches; if you know the Long Tail cast-on method, you’ll have the option of learning a 2-color cast on technique that results in contrast color at the edge of a knitted item. (But your own favorite cast on method will work!) If you've never made reas mittens, you'll learn how to make the gusset, hold and then pick up stitches for the thumb. For the workshop, we'll be making gift card sized mittens, but the free pattern is also appropriate to make smaller ornaments and garlands, when worked in sock or fingering yarn! You'll need #8 and #5 needles, 30 yds. or so of one or 2 colors of worsted yarn, scissors, a stitch holder, and a large-eyed yarn(darning) needle. Free Pattern will be provided. Class fee for the single session is $10. Class meets Saturday, Nov. 23, 11-12:30.
