Tri-Cities ASME Egg Drop Competition This year's American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Egg Drop competition will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 23rd, in the Belk Court of the Kingsport Town Center and is expected to last approximately 2 hours. Check-in and registration for the event will open at 12:00 noon. The Egg Drop competition encourages the local community to put their math and science skills to work in a fun and challenging way as they design protective cases for eggs, and then drop the eggs from 22 feet onto a target. Contestants earn points based on how many parts comprise their case, how close to the target the egg lands, whether the egg lands safely, and how much the case weighs. The top three winners in each of 5 categories will receive cash prizes. Anyone in the community is invited to participate. There will be five competing categories: Elementary school (K-5th grade), Middle school (6-8th grade), High school (9-12th grade), Adult and Teams. The Team category can include any age person and any number of people can be on a team. Each entry will receive a t-shirt at the competition and entries in the Team category will receive up to 2 t-shirts with their entry fee. Additional t-shirts will be available for purchase in advance on the website. Several area sponsors include: Eastman Chemical Company, Northeast State Technical Community College, ASME, AIChE, ASCE, ASQ, Day and Zimmerman, Times News, Jacobs, Food City, and Kingsport Town Center. This year’s competition is expected to attract approximately 150 entries and a crowd of over 400 spectators. Our celebrity emcee of the event will be Tom Taylor, three time A.P. Sports Broadcaster of the Year, host of Tri- Cities Morning Show on AM870, and public address announcer at the Bristol Motor Speedway. Early registration is only $3 for individuals and $5 for teams. The early registration deadline is March 1 and is the only way to guarantee that you will receive a t-shirt.
